The Gauhati University issued a notification on Friday announcing that all the pending exams of the university will be held in the Open Book System (OBS) on online mode. This came in as a consequence of the order from Ministry of Education to cancel all examinations in the month of May in view of the COVID-19 situation in the state.
The order further informs that the postgraduate examination is scheduled to start from 1st June, 2021 and shall get completed by 15th June, 2021. In addition to that, the undergraduate examination is scheduled to start from the second week of June. The decision about the study breaks is to be taken by the respective HODs and Principals of the colleges, under the university.
It has been conveyed in the notification that a committee is constituted to "streamline" the system and to offer necessary suggestions to the Controller of Examinations. It has also been informed that a detailed notification will be published by the Controller of Examinations in this regard, enlisting the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), to be followed during the online examination.
The meeting was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University, Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique. The presidents and the general secretaries of Gauhati University Teachers' Association, Assam College Principal's Council, Assam College Teachers' Association; all the heads of the teaching departments of Gauhati University, Principal of University Law College, Director of GUIST, among several others, were present during the meeting.
