As Covid numbers in Barak Valley continue to rise, several restrictions have been imposed by the district administration. Barak Valley, as of May 6, has 1218 active cases.
It has been reported that in the light of increasing covid cases, Brahmangram in Kalain has been declared a containment zone by the administration on May 5. The area has reportedly reached more than 10% positivity rate. The administration has totally restricted any entry into and exit from Brahmangram for the next 14 days. The administration informed on Wednesday that the decision was taken after an alarming rise in covid cases was observed in the area in the last one week. The entire locality has been strictly quarantined - from NH-6 in the North to Adarsha Vidyapeeth in the South and from the last end of Teacher Colony in the East to Digabar Road in the West. Only movement allowed is for medical emergencies and essential goods and services.
This area will remain a containment zone until and unless all covid infected individuals in the area test negative in the next round of rapid antigen tests. It has been informed that strict legal action will be initiated against those defying the orders.
