The Director General of Police in Assam, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS took over his twitter to inform that an encounter has taken place between the Police and the ULFA at Besimari in Bongaigaon District on Thursday.
The ULFA (I) Commander of Western Command, S. S. Col Dwipen Saud who was recently appointed to replace Drishti Rajkhowa, appeared dead with bullet injury as informed by the DGP. He was then sent to the hospital. Padum Rai, the gun man accompanying S. S. Col Dwipen Saud, has been apprehended alive with a weapon. The police recovered another weapon and a grenade during the initial search. Besides, the DGP informed that further search operations are being carried out.
DGP Mahanta informed that the Department had intelligence report about ULFA Western Command and its plan of some high profile kidnapping, in collaboration with other "anti India forces". "The report appears to be foiled now", said DGP Mahanta. He further credits "high quality police intelligence input", that according to him, worked out precisely for on ground action, and thus made the operation successful.
