The mother of the girl lodged a complaint against the man at Rongpur Police Patrol Post on April 23. Based on the mother’s statement, the police registered a case and arrested the man. The name of the arrested man is Baneshwar Das (65). His house is in the fourth block of Rongpur in Silchar. The girl's family lives as a tenant in the house of Baneshwar Das.
On April 23, Baneshwar allegedly sexually abused the girl. According to the girl's mother, she left her daughter at home on April 23 for some work. When she returned home, she saw Baneshwar sexually abusing her daughter in their apartment.
Police arrested Baneshwar on Tuesday after conducting the preliminary investigation. He was produced in court on Wednesday after his arrest. The court then sent him to jail.
Meanwhile, Baneshwar's family has countered the accusations alleging that the incident was completely false and fabricated. They allege that Baneshwar has been framed by making false allegations because of enmity. The police however said that Baneshwar had been arrested after the initial evidence they gathered during their investigation supported the allegations.
