In the Assam Cabinet meeting on June 30, it has been decided that MLA Padma Hazarika will be given Cabinet status. Hazarika is currently heading the committee for utilising 77,000 bighas of land for agricultural purpose at Gorukhuti, Sipajhar and has been elevated to the Cabinet rank for effectively carrying out his responsibilities.
The Cabinet has also decided to give one month’s compulsory leave to armed battalion personnel from Constable up to Sub-inspector rank staying in battalions, for visiting their homes. However, those living with families in quarters will be given 10 days’ leave.
The Cabinet has also increased the transportation commission paid to fair price shops and cooperative societies from Rs 100.10 to Rs 143 per quintal of rice under NFSA. In addition, for the first time, each of 860 cooperative societies in the state will be given Rs 5 lakh per year for using godown and other sources. Further, transportation contracts for carrying commodities from FCI godowns will be provided, preferably to cooperatives.
Addressing the hurdles faced by students in their education during this pandemic, the Cabinet has instructed the IT Department to set up mobile towers in rural areas of the state to improve connectivity and hence, facilitate better access to online education for students.
