Cyber crime is a global threat as it includes many criminal activities, including ransomware attacks, email and internet fraud, identity theft, as well as attempts to steal financial accounts, credit cards or other payment card information. In order to prevent this menace, the Assam Government, on Monday, June 28, launched a 24X7 helpline number 155260 in the state. Cyber fraud victims may immediately call the given number to block further transfer of the lost money and retrieve it.
Further, Cyber crimes first responder kits have been distributed among police officers in Assam by the Special DGP of Assam Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, IPS. The kits have been procured at ₹ 33.16 crore under the Mission of Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) Scheme, which will be used by Investigating Officers at the crime scenes.
A Cyber Forensic Lab cum Training Centre was also set up at CID Headquarters. The Assam Government further stated that the laboratory is a part of Cyber Crime Prevention Against Women and Children (CCWC) Scheme under the Union Ministry of home affairs. The Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that the laboratory with state-of-the-art facilities will boost the fight against cyber crime.
