Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to announce that an enhanced Vaccination Drive will begin in Assam from 21 June. CM Sarma further stated that in order to ensure its success a Video Conference was held on Saturday (June 19) with DCs, SPs, Joint Director of Health Services and Principals of Medical Colleges.
CM Sarma further directed the District Administration to strive to achieve the target of 3 lakh vaccinations everyday, from June 21 to June 30, in the state. Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma also stated that all Guardian Ministers and Secretaries should make a camp at their respective districts for the next seven days to ensure maximum vaccination.
The Chief Minister of Assam also informed that the Central Government will provide COVID-19 vaccines to 18-44 people free of cost and ensured there will be no separate category based on age for vaccination. CM Sarma further stated that the Government of Assam will provide an assistance of ₹ 100 /day to vaccination workers for transportation cost & other expenses.
It has also been reported that there will be 2000 vaccination centres across Assam. In urban areas vaccination will continue from 8 am to 8 pm, in two shifts and in rural areas, it will be from 8 am to 1 pm. CM Sarma further stated that to help on-the-spot registrations, there will be a designated worker at every vaccination centre.
CM Sarma urged the Health Department to maximise publicity in order to bring maximum people to vaccination centres. He also appealed to NGOs and other social organisations including political workers to motivate people to take part in the vaccination drive and make it a successful event.
Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma further requests all Government and private sector employees including the shopkeepers, vegetable vendors, etc. to come forward for vaccination at the earliest in order to join their workplaces soon. CM Sarma further directed the officials to ensure targeting vulnerable areas like tea gardens for vaccination.
