54 Kilograms of Cannabis seized in Silchar, 2 arrested


The Cachar Police has launched an aggressive drive against narcotics in the district. Based on a tip-off, Cachar DSP Kalyan Kumar Das and Malugram TOP Officer Incharge Khaikhoj Chimot led a successful operation to seize 54 kilograms of cannabis on June 18.The cannabis has been seized from cannabis dealer Ajit Singha’s house in Manipuri Basti, Itkhola. The Police were able to find five packets of cannabis there. The market value of the cannabis seized has been reported to be 8 lakhs.

In this operation, along with dealer Ajit Singha (45), Chandra Kumar Singha (53) who is a resident of Ghaniala was also arrested. The Police suspects that Ajit Singha used to smuggle the cannabis from Manipur using his Sumo Service Centre at Silchar Capital Point. In fact, Ajit Singha has admitted that the cannabis seized had been brought from Manipur on Friday.
