The current Member of Legislative Assembly from Karimganj South Constituency, Siddeque Ahmed, was released from hospital on Thursday, after testing negative for COVID-19. Ahmed was admitted at Green Heals Hospital in Silchar on June 9 after complaining about fever and respiratory disorders.


Siddeque Ahmed was admitted in the Green Heals Hospital on June 9 after his oxygen level started falling down rapidly. At the time of admission, Ahmed's SpO2 (oxygen saturation) level was 93%. Soon after his admission, Ahmed was put under oxygen support. Consequently, his oxygen level had started rising, and was soon recorded to be 98%. The MLA tested negative for COVID-19 under Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), however RT-PCR test results, that came out on June 10, revealed that Siddeque Ahmed was COVID-19 positive. Thus, he was admitted at the COVID ward in the hospital, where he was under the treatment of Dr. A. M. Mohammad Masroor, Dr. Amit Kalwar and Dr. Anusri Deb Gupta. After being treated for a week by the doctors, Siddeque Ahmed tested negative for COVID-19 on Thursday, and was released thereafter.


In a conversation with Bartalipi, Siddeque Ahmed said, "I express my gratitude towards the doctors and the nursing home officials, who treated me well, since the day, I was admitted at the hospital". Ahmed added, "I could fight back and recover from COVID-19 by virtue of the best efforts of the doctors and the advanced treatment facilities in the hospital". Ahmed further informed that despite having some signs of weakness in his body, he is now healthy. "I came across several complaints that nursing homes do not treat COVID-19 patients well. However, after being treated for a week here, my perception regarding this has taken a positive turn. The nursing home has indeed treated me very well", stated Ahmed. Ahmed expressed his satisfaction over each and every official of the Green Heals Hospital and their way of carrying out the hospital procedures.


MLA Siddeque Ahmed has expressed his gratitude towards those who had enquired about his health while at the hospital. He mentioned Minister of Water Resources, Pijush Hazarika; MLA, Rakibur Rehman; Former Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Aminul Haque Laskar; Cachar Deputy Commissioner, Keerthi Jalli, IAS and Police Superintendent, Vaibhav Chandrakanta Nimbalkar, and said that their blessings and wishes could get him recover from COVID-19, earlier than what he expected.


Dr. A. M. Mohammad Masroor informed that Siddeque Ahmed had to be supplied with 2-3 litres of oxygen daily for the first two days, post which, his oxygen level returned back to normal, and he was not under oxygen support then. "He recovered much earlier as compared to our expectations", informed Dr. Masroor. He added, "Mr. Siddeque Ahmed has been released from the hospital on Thursday after he tested negative for COVID-19." He further informed, "Despite the negative COVID-19 reports, we have suggested Mr. Ahmed to stay under home isolation for the next 10 days."


At the time of release, MLA Siddeque Ahmed was accompanied by his daughter, Dr. Sumaiya Ahmed, his son-in-law (Sumaiya's spouse), close follower of the MLA, Ansar Hussain Barlaskar and others.
