HSLC, HS Board Exams not possible at present, recommends Assam Cabinet

The Education Department will take the final call on June 18.

As a crucial update on the pending board examinations in the state, the cabinet met on June 16 and after a detailed review of the current COVID situation, has recommended not to conduct the HSLC, High Madrasa and Higher Secondary final exams under the existing circumstances. Hence, the education department will take the final decision in this matter through discussions with all stakeholders on June 18.

At the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, a number of other important decisions were also taken. The cabinet has approved the installation of four new forensic laboratories in the state, at Silchar Medical College, Assam Medical College Dibrugarh, Tezpur Medical College and Bongaigaon Civil Hospital. These forensic laboratories are expected to strengthen the crime investigation process in the state.

In order to make the ′′Supplementary Nutrition Scheme′′ implemented by the Social Welfare Department for the nutrition of children and pregnant women more robust, the cabinet has decided to purchase the rice bought under the scheme directly from the Food Corporation of India. This will help save government money and then other nutritional products will be supplied with the help of those savings. The ceiling system will not apply to the implementation of this scheme from now on.

The cabinet also approved the statutes of 5 newly established universities in the state - Madhabdev University at Narayanpur, Bajali's Bhattdev University, Majuli Cultural University, Golaghat Sati Sadhani University and Rabindranath Tagore University in Hojai. This will empower the universities to form different councils and run educational programs as well.

In view of current COVID infections, today's cabinet decided not to provide home isolation to COVID positive people without separate toilets and rooms. The health department and the administration have been directed to strictly enforce this decision.
