In a press conference on Tuesday at Haflong, the Health Minister of Assam, Keshab Mahanta detailed the new Standard Operating Procedures for the state of Assam, that shall come in force at 05:00 AM of 16th June, 2021.

The Health Minister announced that, Cachar and four other districts - Tinsukia, Sonitpur, Dibrugarh and Nagaon, will be kept under a strict radar of the state government and all measures will be taken to improve the situation in the districts. "If the districts fail to control the infection by June 21, we may need to take hard decisions. There are chances of lockdown being imposed in the districts", stated Mahanta. No relaxation was announced on the curfew hours and the existing curfew period (1 PM to 5 AM), shall remain in force in these districts.

In Kamrup (M), relaxations have been imposed on the curfew hour. The curfew will now start in the district at 2 PM and shall stay active till 5 AM. However, shops, offices and business establishments have been ordered to shut down at 1 PM. This shall remain in force till June 22.

The health minister further announced that the curfew period in 8 districts, that include South Salmara, Majuli, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Udalguri, West Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Charaideo, has been relaxed. The curfew shall now be of 12 hours, and will be from 5 PM - 5 AM. All other districts in Assam have been ordered to continue with the existing restrictions till further notice.

The inter-district movement has been ordered to stay banned in the entire state till 5 AM of June 22. In addition, all weekly markets and schools will remain closed in the state. However, the Government officials, who have been administered with the two doses of COVID vaccine, shall start attending office as usual.

On 14th June, Cachar district reported a total of 298 COVID-19 positive cases. Karimganj reported 102 positive cases of COVID-19 on the same day, whereas, Hailakandi recorded a total of 34 COVID-19 positive cases. 4 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported in Barak Valley on Monday.
