June 12 : 195 active COVID-19 patients in SMCH; 82 in ICU; Black Fungus Patient referred to GMCH

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, on Saturday (June 12), informed about the COVID-19 update of SMCH.

Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, on Saturday (June 12), informed about the COVID-19 update of SMCH. Dr. Bhaskar Gupta stated that a total number of 195 active cases were reported till 5 pm on Saturday (June 12).

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta further stated that the total number of patients in ICU were 82; total number of 113 patients were in the ward; 17 patients were under ventilators and 138 patients were under oxygen support. It has also been reported that a total number of 25 patients were admitted at SMCH in the last 24 hours and 28 patients got discharged in the last 24 hours.

The Vice Principal of SMCH further informed that in the last 24 hours 4 deaths due to COVID-19 have been registered in SMCH. It has been reported that out of the 4 deceased, 3 were from the Cachar district and 1 from Hailakandi. They were identified as :


  1. Pushpa Rani Biswas (84 years) from Hailakandi got admitted at SMCH on June 7 and succumbed to COVID-19 on June 11 at 9 pm.
  2. Fakrul Islam Barbhuiya (50 years) from Dakkhin Krishnapur in Cachar, got  admitted at SMCH on June 8 and succumbed to COVID-19 on June 11 at 9 pm.
  3. S. Kulachandra (72 years) from Lakhipur in Cachar, got admitted at SMCH on June 6 and succumbed to COVID-19 on June 12 at 11 am.
  4. Alauddin Barbhuiya (60 years) from Bagha Bazar in Cachar, got admitted at SMCH on June 10 and succumbed to COVID-19 on June 12 at 2:50 pm.


The Vice Principal of SMCH further stated that a patient from SMCH Alok Kumar Deb, earlier diagnosed with Black Fungus and who is currently in stable condition was sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, on Saturday (June 12) for further treatment.
