US to send raw materials for COVID vaccine to India

The United States of America has claimed to have identified sources of specific raw materials, urgently required for Indian manufacture of the Covishield vaccine, that will "immediately" be made available for India, as informed in a statement by the NSC Spokesperson, Emily Horne on USA's National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan's call with India's National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.

"Mr. Sullivan affirmed America's solidarity with India", read the statement. The statement further informed : Sullivan and Doval have resolved that India and United States will continue to fight the COVID-19 pandemic together, building on the "seven decade health parternship" between United States and India, including battles against smallpox, polio and HIV. "Just as India sent assistance to the United States as our hospitals were strained early in the pandemic, the United States is determined to help India in its time of need", ensured the official statement.

The statement further informed that the United States has recognised supplies of therapeutics, rapid diagnostic test kits, ventilators, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help treat COVID-19 patients and protect frontline workers in India. The order ensured that the mentioned resources will immediately be made available to India. The statement further added that in addition, the United States is following options to provide Oxygen generation and related supplies on an urgent basis to India.

According to the statement, the U.S. Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is funding a "substantial" expansion of the production capability of BioE, the Hyderabad based biopharmaceutical company, which will enable BioE to produce 1 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2022.

An expert team of public health advisors from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is being set up by the United States. The expert team shall be in "close collaboration" with the U. S. Embassy, India's Health Ministries and India's Epidemic Intelligence Service staff. "USAID will also quickly work with CDC to support and fast-track mobilization of emergency resources available to India through the Global Fund", informed the statement.
