Supplementary Nutrition Programme : CM directs measures for reform in the implementation process


Assam Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, in a meeting held at his office conference room at Janata Bhawan on Saturday, June 5, carried out a comprehensive review of the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP), being implemented by the Social Welfare Department, with senior officials of the department.

The Chief Minister emphasized on overall reform in the implementation process to assure that maximum benefits of the scheme reach the beneficiaries, stressing the significance of the scheme for nutritional support towards the healthy development of children up to the age of six and pregnant women as well as lactating mothers.

Chief Minister Sarma instructed the officials to revisit the process of implementation of the scheme and prepare new guidelines making sure that the beneficiaries get the utmost nutritional support. He made several recommendations for making the scheme effective including measures regarding the increase in the number of items, provided to beneficiaries under the categories of Taking Home Ration (THR) and Hot Cooked Meal (HCM).

The Chief Minister also advised the officials to intensify monitoring of the implementation process to avoid any malpractice and explore innovative ways to take the scheme closer to people by making them important stakeholders. He also proposed certain procedural relaxations for ensuring seamless implementation of the scheme.

The meeting was attended by Social Welfare Minister, Ajanta Neog; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Samir Kumar Sinha; Principal Secretary to Social Welfare Department, Mukesh Sahu; Director, Social Welfare, BK Modi and other senior officials.
