The Junior Doctors’ Association of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, in the context of the mob assault on Dr Seuj Kumar Senapati, Medical Officer at Udali Model Hospital in Hojai district on June 1, showed their solidarity with the attacked doctor and staged a protest.
They condemned the heinous act of violence on a doctor on duty. While they appreciated the swift action taken by the administration and state government against the perpetrators, they also listed out some demands on June 2.
They ask for a fast track investigation into the case so that justice is served to the victim. They also ask for financial and emotional support to be provided to the doctor and his family. Armed security personnel should be deployed at Covid care centres and the existing security provisions at SMCH must be strengthened, they said. They demand that referral services at peripheral health centres should be made stronger with one or two ambulances available at all times to facilitate easy and swift transfer. They also expect adequate supply of medicines and oxygen to be ensured so that emergency treatment can be provided at PHCs. Further, they also demand the establishment of a police outpost within the SMCH campus.
