A public meeting was organised at Fakirabazar alleging poor quality of construction of the Karimganj-Sutarkandi National Highway and also demanding the construction of drains at Fakirabazar. North Karimganj MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha had brought the protesters and the departmental officials to the table for the public meeting.
At the meeting, the officials from the Department of Public Works accepted all the demands, and the protests thus came to an end. The officials assured quality construction of the remaining portion of the Karimganj-Sutarkandi National Highway and also assured the construction of drains along the Fakirabazar Highway. In this context, the concerned department will soon send a plan-estimate. Assurances were also made to take steps to make Fakirabazar free from coercion.
At the meeting, the departmental engineer also described the work and progress of the Karimganj-Sutarkandi National Highway. Besides MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, representatives from all political parties were present at the meeting, including former MLA Mission Ranjan Das, social worker Sahabul Islam Choudhury Parul and other stakeholders and concerned individuals from the area. Social worker and teacher Abu Choudhury expressed his gratitude to everyone for attending the public meeting.
