The Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Assam issued a press release on Thursday, announcing that the fund release process of Swahid Kushal Konwar Sarbajanin Bridha Pension Achoni (SKKSBPA) and Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme (IMUWPS), implemented through Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department, is more simplified as the state cabinet decided to bring the said two schemes out of ceiling purview in its yesterday's regular weekly meeting. The press release asserts that the new system will significantly ease the process of getting pensions, benefitting more than 15 lakh people.
As a result of the development, the Finance Department no longer needs to approve the releasing of fund for pensions. Instead, the senior most secretary of P&RD, Assam will sanction the proposals. The pensioners, under these schemes, will receive monthly pension by 10th of every month.
It should be noted here that 12,56,698 senior citizens are being provided old age pension under SKKSBPA and a total of 13,15,759 beneficiaries are sanctioned under the scheme till date. Moreover, 1,70,034 beneficiaries have already received monthly pension under IMUWPS and a total of 1,85,332 beneficiaries are sanctioned under it. "The number of beneficiaries under both the schemes is likely to be increased as both the schemes are universal", informed the Press Release.
