In a joint operation,at least seven Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) extremists were killed in an encounter with security forces in the West Karbi-Anglong district, along the Nagaland border, on Sunday, May 23. The Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) group is largely active in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong disticts of Assam and in some parts of neighbouring Nagaland.
The joint operation was launched by the Assam Police and Assam Rifles in Dhansiri area of Karbi-Anglong district and it was led by West Karbi Anglong Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Prakash Sonowal,
during the early morning hours, on Sunday, May 23.
It has also been reported that loads of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the slain militants after the gunfight with a joint team of Assam Police and Assam Rifles.
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, also told the press about the incident, on Sunday, May 23, saying "Seven DNLA terrorists were killed during an encounter with Assam Police in Karbi Anglong. Three AK-47, arms ammunition recovered from the spot. As per the information, two of their leaders were injured during the encounter."
The Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) was formed in April 2019 to fight for an independent “Dimasa nation”. And it has also been reported that the members of this outfit were reportedly trained by the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland.
