On May 22 - the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity, Minister for Environment and Forest in Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya appealed to people to conserve biodiversity.
In his plea, Minister Parimal Suklabaidya said at a time when the whole world is battling the COVID-19 pandemic and there is severe shortage of oxygen leading to loss of life, the need of the hour is to conserve Nature - it's flora and fauna - for the human species to survive. He said, "It's nature that gives solutions to our problems and keeps us alive.” Suklabaidya added that man and nature must live in harmony and everyone must work relentlessly for environmental conservation. The Environment and Forest Minister also appealed to the people to plant at least two to three saplings.
A video coinciding with the International Day for Biological Diversity was also released in which Minister Suklabaidya called on everyone to participate in conserving biodiversity.
The theme of this year's International Day for Biological Diversity “We’re part of the Solution” was chosen as a continuation of the momentum generated last year under the theme, “Our Solutions are in Nature”, which served as a reminder that biodiversity remains the key to sustainable development.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister had also posted a tweet on the occasion and appealed to the people to reaffirm their commitment in preserving biodiversity for a sustainable future.
