During the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, India has witnessed an alarming shortage of oxygen for patients. More than 500 individuals from all over the country have so far been reported to have lost their lives due to the lack of oxygen availability. In this context, the Assam Cabinet has taken a number of decisions on May 19 to avert any such crisis of oxygen in the state.
The Cabinet has decided that the state government will provide 100 percent free power supply to any new oxygen plant that is set up. Even to revive defunct oxygen plants, 100 percent free power supply will be provided. In case of an expansion of an existing oxygen plant, free power will be provided to the new unit. However, all existing oxygen pants will be given 20 percent free power supply. These decisions would apply starting from January 1, 2021 but would be financially implied from April 1, 2021.
In addition, the Chief Executive Members of Bodoland Territorial Region, Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong will be given Cabinet status. Further, the title of I/C Minister will be changed to Guardian Minister and they would be responsible for their respective districts. The Cabinet has also decided to appoint Debojit Saikia as the new Advocate General of Assam.
The information was released by the Office of the Chief Minister of Assam on Social Media.
