Health Minister Keshab Mahanta evaluates the COVID-19 situation in Karimganj; encourages everyone to work in tandem to prevent COVID-19


Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Keshab Mahanta on Monday, 17 May, reviewed the COVID-19 condition in Karimganj in a meeting with officials of district administration, Health, DDMA and other related departments at DC's conference hall. 

Presiding over the meeting, Minister Keshab Mahanta asserted that the officials of the district administration need to work in an organised system to restrict the pandemic from spreading further. He asked for proper coordination at the district level, circle and block levels for bringing the COVID-19 situation under control. 

Mahanta authorized the health functionaries to assure that the COVID-19  patients admitted in hospitals are administered oxygen first while other formalities are to be observed later. 

He also advised the administration to make sure that the COVID-19 patients under home isolation are provided with the proper amenities at home. They have to be admitted to COVID Care Centres in case the conditions are not met. He further asked for the counselling of the COVID-19  patients under home isolation, twice a day and monitoring of their health condition. 

The Minister ordered the district administration to ramp up infrastructure, COVID-19 testing and vaccination to restrict the further spread of the virus. Mahanta also assured that ICU's will be operationalised and equipped with adequate facilities soon after MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha petitioned for making functional use of the ICU at Karimganj Civil Hospital.

The Minister requested the MLAs to keep a close watch on the COVID-19 situation in their respective constituencies and to inform the administration on matters that deserve primary attention. The Minister encouraged the need to keep close attention on the containment zones with routine visits by officials of the administration, health and police department to assure that the SoPs are precisely adhered to. 

Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Anurag Goel summarized the endeavours carried out by the State Government to speedily ramp up infrastructure to handle the COVID-19 situation and the SoPs issued at regular intervals to contain the disease. 

Deputy Commissioner Anbamuthan MP informed the Minister about the prevailing COVID situation, initiatives taken by the administration to curb further spread of the disease, availability of oxygen beds, vaccines and other equipment. The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned that actions have been taken to implement the SoPs attained from the State Government. The Deputy Commissioner further highlighted the establishment of a 70-bedded COVID Care Centre at an indoor stadium in the Karimganj Town.

The Minister accompanied by DC and other senior officials had previously inspected the facilities in the COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 wards at the Karimganj Civil Hospital. He advised the Superintendent to deliver adequate medical care to the COVID-19 affected individuals. 

Minister Mahanta ensured that a vaccination centre will be set up at the Press Club to allow the media individuals to get vaccinated. 

The review meeting was attended by MP- Kripanath Mallah, MLAs- Krishnendu Paul, Siddique Ahmed and Bijoy Malakar, ADCs, SP, CEO, Zilla Parishad, COs and other senior officials of Health and line departments.
