Parimal Suklabaidya holds Meeting; Vaccine Black-Marketing and Probability of Lockdown discussed

Assam Environment & Forests, Fisheries and Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on Saturday, May 15,  held a review meeting with Cachar DC, Keerthi Jalli, District Immunization Officer, Dr. Sumona Naiding, Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer (FW) Dr. PK Roy, MLAs and other concerned officials at the Deputy Commissioner's office. MLA of Lakhipur, Kaushik Rai and the MLA of Katigorah, Khalil Uddin Mazumder couldn't attend the meeting.

The meeting was focused on the alleged vaccination scam that took place in the SM Dev Civil Hospital in Silchar, which has become a national issue with media across the country reporting about it. There was discussion regarding the possibility of a lockdown if there is a surge in COVID-19 cases and maintenance of the COVID-19 protocols across the valley.

Amid an acute shortage of vaccines both nationally and in the state, it was reported that a black marketing of the COVID-19 vaccine was being carried out within the premises of the SM Dev Civil Hospital. Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty stated in clear terms that the incident had featured not just in the local news but nationally as well, and this had brought disrepute to the government, so the matter must immediately be investigated by the administration and those found guilty must be punished.

There was also a discussion regarding the lockdown in the valley. It has been reported that keeping in mind the current economic condition, lockdown isn’t likely to be imposed in the next few days but Covid protocol must be strictly implemented. However, if there is a surge in COVID-19 cases and if the valley experiences shortage of oxygen supply and other medical equipment, a lockdown could be imposed.

Further, the  Assam Environment & Forests, Fisheries, Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has instructed the MLAs to actively monitor the COVID-19 situation in their respective districts and visit the Block PHCs and hospitals The Minister also requested the MLAs to appeal to the people in their assembly constituencies to abide by the Covid protocol to prevent the surge in the Coronavirus cases in the valley.
